A short introduction to the DLA claim I made for my partner. We had chosen not to claim DLA as we felt that my partner was not disabled enough for it. When her condition deteriorated significantly in June-July 2011, we made a claim in August 2011.
This was rejected.
I requested that the deadline in which to submit a reconsideration was extended as my partner was seriously ill in hospital at the time and I did not feel that I could devote my energy into looking into this as my time was spent just working and being at the hospital.
I was told that this was not possible and if I chose to not reconsider at this time, I could take a “Gamble” on having it extended at a later date although this was far from a certainty.
I was very upset that not only was my partner very poorly, that I then had to ask for a reconsideration without the ability to formulate a proper response as I did not want to “gamble” on going over the allotted time. (6 months later, the DWP apologised for this)
As with the ESA problems, this turned out to be the least of our worries…
